1. Please contact Prof. Hori by email by the end of April or October for enrollment in fall or spring, respectively, and schedule an in-person or online interview. In the interview, we will explain our research topics, research direction, and the techniques required for your work. If you attend an in-person interview, you will also have the opportunity to visit the lab and speak with current students. 3. If you are accepted, you will enroll in October 1st or April 1st and begin your research.

If accepted for the scholarship, you will receive a monthly research scholarship of 140,000-145,000 yen after enrollment. For example, if you are planning to start the course in Oct 2026, you need to make a contact by the end of Feb 2025. If accepted for the DC1 fellowship, you will receive a monthly research scholarship of 200,000 yen from April after enrollment.

You will be asked to prepare a research proposal and application form in consultation with Prof. Hori before the DC1 application deadline, which is usually around early May. The notification of acceptance or rejection will be given after enrollment and the fellowship will be provided half a year after enrollment.

*To apply for the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan, you will be asked to prepare a research proposal and application form in consultation with Prof. Hori by around July 24 or March 24, which are the deadlines for summer or spring application, respectively. Thus, please contact Prof. Hori by the end of May (summer application) or January (spring application) prior to the deadlines for discussion about the application. Please note that these deadlines are different from those announced in the website of JSPS. This is because the application forms are submitted to university at first and then JSPS, so the university deadlines are earlier than those of JSPS.

*To apply for the HFSP Postdoctoral Fellowship, you will be asked to prepare a research proposal in consultation with Prof. Hori by around May, which is the deadline for the application. Thus, please contact Prof. Hori by the middle of March prior to the deadlines for discussion about the application, if you are considering HFSP application. However, please note that the fellows can start research on April of the next year after the application if the application is accepted. Thus, it takes almost a year to start the research after contact with Prof. Hori.
